Martha Washington Hotel

Chelsea Hotels is a collective hotel brand with an emphasis on high end design and modern technology encompassing five New York hotels. In 2014, Chelsea Hotels renovated the historic Martha Washington Hotel, originally opened in 1903. Working closely with the architect, technology consultant, and hotel management, PPI designed and installed AV systems to support the hotel’s strategic vision for the property. The ground floor of the hotel features a flexible distributed audio system that hotel staff control through a custom programmed iPad interface. The audio system was carefully integrated into the unique architectural space, and speakers were zoned to support separate experiences in the restaurant, lobby, and bar spaces. A private dining room on the ground floor features a video presentation system with a projector mounted onto a motorized lift that recesses into the ceiling when not in use. While highly functional when engaged, the system was designed to be almost entirely hidden when not in use, making the dining room an attractive venue for many types of events.

The second floor features flexible presentation systems to provide hotel management with easy to configure technology capabilities in their event spaces. The system features two video walls with ultra-thin bezel displays on each side of the divisible ballroom, and additional flat panel displays on mobile stands for multiple event configurations. Multiple connection points throughout the space and a custom programmed iPad interface allows video and audio sources to be routed in various configurations to either video wall and multiple audio zones, enabling the ballroom to be used for virtually any style of event.
